What is an Affiliate Program?

If you have been online for some time I'm sure you have come across the term affiliate scheme or program.

If not then basically an affiliate program is a scheme whereby you can promote someone else's products either on your web site, by e-mail, or even both.

If the people you refer to this site or Small Business Success then go on to purchase an e-book you will earn a commission.

How exactly does it work?

When you sign up for the program you will be allocated a specific affiliate ID.

You will be given access to your own Affiliate Center which has all the tools to build your links, and access to a variety of reports to track your sales and commissions.

You will have two affiliate options (you can use one or both)

• An 'All E-Books' link which captures all the e-books in the program. So you could say to your client, 'Visit here for a great selection of small business e-books' and they will be taken to the e-book homepage and off they go. We will track what they purchase and pay you the commission

• A product specific link which allows you to tell your clients about one particular e-book. For example, one month you may be featuring a particular theme in your newsletter and one of our e-books perfectly compliments it. So you download the specific link from the Affiliate Center, and copy and paste it into your newsletter.

These choices give you great flexibility as you how you wish to promote the e-books.

I'm not a technically-minded person. Is it complicated to select the link?

No! It's very easy. Everything is automatically done for you. There are 3 ways you can promote:

• E-Mail. Each of the e-books in the program comes with a pre-written sales e-mail. Your affiliate link is already embedded in the e-mail, so all you have to do is copy the text, paste it into your e-mail program, select who to send it to and click send! A campaign to promote one e-book only takes a matter of minutes!

• Text Advert. For each e-book you have a pre-written one-sentence sales pitch. This is a very focused approach and the text ad is great to insert anywhere. Again, your affiliate details are already embedded so all you have to do is copy and paste

• Graphics. The banners and e-book covers you see on this site for each e-book are available for you to use as well. The graphics are embedded with your affiliate details, so just copy and paste to your web site

Everything is done for you with the aim of making it as easy as possible to get the best out of this program.

How much commission will I earn?

Many affiliate schemes will earn you only 5% to 20%. I feel that is far too low which is why I offer you a whopping 60% commission on each item sold. After all, I would never had made the sale without your efforts so it's only fair you have the larger proportion.

Let's take the example of my e-book 'The Secrets of Getting Your Bank Manager to Say Yes!' This is a big e-book (246 pages) and retails at $39 (approximately £21). If you sell a copy then your commission will be 60% of this amounting to $23.40 (approximately £12.60). Not bad for sending one e-mail or placing a link on your web site!

But ... it doesn't stop there! I operate a two-tier commission system. So if any of your purchasers decide to join this affiliate program and they make a sale, not only will they get their 60% but I will also give you 20% as well!

Yes, you read that right. I will pay you 20% for doing nothing as way of saying thanks for introducing a new affiliate to me.

How long will a potential purchaser be tracked?

We all know that some people can take a while to make up their mind before they buy. Suppose one of your clients follows your affiliate link to this site, looks at the e-book and decides think about it and come back later. He comes back a few times and finally six months later takes the plunge!

I don't want you to lose out on a sale just because it took him so long,  which is why a 'cookie' is set to track all visitors for up to 12 months after the initial visit. In this way all your clients who click through via your introduction is linked to your Affiliate ID for 12 months. If they make a purchase during that period you will get commission for the sale .... plus commission on any further sales he makes during that 12 months!

How will I be paid?

To keep administration costs down and to recognise that you could be anywhere in the world where posting of cheques is not practical, we pay via Paypal.

This is a great service for electronically transferring funds and is free to sign up to. If you don't have a Paypal account and you wish to join this program you will need to sign up for an account now (I suggest you do it now before you start the program sign-up process as it is one of the steps) - to sign up with Paypal you can go here

How often will I be paid?

We pay via Paypal every month as long as you have a minimum commission payable of $10.

How will I know you have added new e-books?

As soon as you sign up to the program you will periodically receive our Affiliate Newsletter. This newsletter is exclusive to affiliates and includes product updates together with ideas and tips on how you can get the best out of our partnership.
